Kentucky Music Weekend For the 33rd consecutive year, KENTUCKY MUSIC WEEKEND will bring the finest folk musicians and Kentucky traditions to Iroquois Amphitheater and the tree-lined area nearby. Voted into law as Kentucky’s “Premier Folk Festival” in 2000, KMW will again fill the Amphitheater with the sounds of our history through the music of the banjo, fiddle, guitar, dulcimer, and vocal harmony! This year we will continue celebrating our state’s rich musical heritage through concerts, workshops, the dulcimer and hammered dulcimer championship contests, regional dulcimer club performances, and a huge jam session! Although no formal tickets will be sold, a “suggested donation of $10” will be collected at the main gate for the Friday and Saturday evening performances. That way, if someone is unable to pay, they can still be part of the event. Non-perishable food items will be collected for Dare To Care Food Bank as in past years. For the seventh year KMW will host the Kentucky State Mountain and Hammered Dulcimer Championship contests. This event will be held on Saturday beginning at 12:00 noon, with the first place winners receiving a new dulcimer or hammered dulcimer, trophy, plus entry fees to the Walnut Valley National Contests in Winfield, Kansas. Our winners have always represented our state well during these contests and several past state winners will perform during the afternoon concerts. In the late afternoon a huge jam session will take place in the tree lined area near the Amphitheater entrance. Everyone is welcome to come, bring an instrument, a folding chair or blanket and enjoy sharing music together. Listeners also welcome! KMW would not be possible without the help of our sponsors and the organizations as well as individual volunteers who support our efforts. Metro Councilman, Dan Johnson, is a major sponsor again this year. The Louisville Dulcimer Society and the Louisville Country Dancers are also sponsors of the event. Our sincere appreciation goes out to all those that help us to keep the music alive and thriving in Kentucky.
